An engraved folding map, with full color was and engraved geometric border.

Size: 18.9 inches X 23 inches folding down to 5.1 inches x 3.1 inches.

Map Type: Pocket

The map is in very good condition with some repairs on the crease lines, small age spots and very light age discoloration throughout. A liquid spill stain is present in lower Georgia.

Mitchell's Compendium of The Internal Improvements of The United States; comprising General Notices of All the Most Important Canals and Rail-Roads, throughout the Several States and Territories of the Union: Together with A Brief Notice of Works of Internal Improvement in Canada and Nova Scotia. , Mitchell & Hinman, Philadelphia, 1836, in black leather covered boards with title Mitchell's Compendium of Canals & Railroads in gilt with gilt border around edge on front and back. 84pp. Plus 4 pages of advertisements and public endorsements for Mitchell & Hinman publications. Leather is chipped at top of spine, top edges and corners are worn. Original blue 'marbled' paper wrappers. Light foxing throughout the book.

Map is copyrighted 1835 by S. Augustus Mitchell, and dated in the cartouche 1836. Inset maps show the environs of: Niagara Falls, Baltimore and Washington, Charleston, Hartford and New Haven, Albany, Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. Inset maps are also outlined.

The map shows as far northeast as parts of New Brunswick; Southeast to Florida just above Tampa Bay; Southwest to Texas around Galveston Bay; and Northwest through parts of Missouri Territory [Kansas and Nebraska].

Towns and courthouse locations are identified. The connecting railroads and canals are highlighted with hand drawn lines.
