Volume V Plate 11 - The Head of the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Cheops ~ The Great Pyramid is impressive, towering over the desert standing some 481 feet high and covering about thirteen acres of land. Of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramid is the first, and only survivor. The Great Pyramid complex probably remained mostly intact for almost 4,000 years because of the ancient Egyptian's reverence toward the structures as monuments of their ancestors. In terms of their size, the technical accomplishment of their construction, and the organization required to complete them, the Great Pyramid and Sphinx represent a phenomenal effort.
